Dr. Allison Harriott is a distinguished double-boarded physician with an extensive background spanning over a decade in the fields of Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Harriott completed residency training in Emergency Medicine at SUNY Downstate/Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, NY, graduating in 2013. During this time, she exhibited exceptional dedication and a profound commitment to advancing medical education.
In recognition of her exceptional teaching abilities and passion for medical education, Dr. Harriott was invited to participate in the prestigious ACEP Teaching Fellowship, an honor reserved for established core faculty across the country. This experience solidified her commitment to medical education and advancing patient outcomes.
Upon completion of her residency training, Dr. Harriott embarked on a journey of further specialization, completing fellowship training in Internal Medicine-Critical Care Medicine at Penn State Hershey Medical Center in 2016. This additional training refined her expertise in the management of critically ill patients, reinforcing her commitment to optimizing patient outcomes, especially in high-stress, time-sensitive environments.
As an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Dr. Harriott served as the instructor for the EM Triage and Resuscitation simulation-based medical student elective. This position allowed her to impart her wealth of knowledge and practical experience to the next generation of medical professionals. Dr. Harriott also served as a medical simulation training course instructor at the renowned Penn State Hershey Clinical Simulation Center.
Dr. Harriott’s expertise extends to the realm of procedural proficiency. She has masterfully utilized simulation-based training to educate medical trainees on a spectrum of core procedures. From intubation and central line placement to advanced difficult airway management and code team coordination, Dr. Harriott has been a beacon of guidance, ensuring that emerging clinicians acquire the skills necessary to navigate complex clinical scenarios with finesse and confidence.
Throughout her career, Dr. Harriott’s focus has revolved around the application of simulation-based learning methodologies to cultivate cohesive interdisciplinary teams in both Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit settings. Recognizing the pivotal role of collaboration in healthcare, she dedicated her efforts to training residents, fellows, and nurses in the art of seamless teamwork, ultimately leading to enhanced patient care and outcomes.
